The Kooiman Family Vote Andrea Kooiman for Capistrano Unified School District Trustee

Area 2
  • Endorsed by Capistrano Unified Education Association ( Association represents all CUSD Teachers)
  • California School Employees Association (Association that represents all CUSD classified employees)
  • Personally invested in CUSD for 28 years
  • Current CUSD parent
  • Experience on CUSD Board
Independent candidate focused on the future (not part of the CUSD Recall Slate)

It's time to move forward!

I am a proud product of our CUSD schools, from elementary through my Dana Hills High School graduation where I served the students of the district as their representative to the district Board of Trustees. Unlike any of the current school board members, my child attends CUSD schools. I am a Lacrosse mom, PTA mom, volunteer mom and a working mom. I have always been an active volunteer in and out of the classrooms and active in my children’s schools and the district level PTAs. I know the issues of the district and recognize the diversity of needs of one of the largest and educationally successful school districts in California. I have been endorsed by the teachers of Capistrano Unified (CUEA).

I do not belong to any outside special interest groups; I am beholden to no one but my constituents. I am not part of the CUSD Recall slate; I am an independent candidate ready to join the board, working to reach the common goal of providing a quality educational program for all students. It is time that this community elects a trustee that is a true representative for ALL the families! I am willing to serve so the people of our diverse communities have a choice for change.

I offer a philosophy of conservative, responsible financial management guided by the educational needs and enrichment of our children. I will continue to strongly advocate to the State for equality of school district funding, the financial support of class-size reduction programs across all grade levels and appropriate financial support of ALL students, from special needs to Gifted and Talented and all students in between. I will listen to and work with all groups, but will be obliging to none. I stand for local control of our schools and what’s best for our kids.

I have watched CUSD grow and evolve throughout the years. I feel there are real solutions to all of the challenges that we are facing. I am tired of the bitterness and division within the district and hope to bring change to an obviously divided board. Let’s bring the focus back to the education of our kids. Let’s stop playing the blame game, and instead, work on finding a way to move forward. Let’s partner with our teachers and classified staff for the better education of our children and give them the foundation that they need to succeed.

Vote for Andrea Kooiman this November, so that independent, honest, caring change can begin.

Dear Friends and Family,

I want to THANK YOU for your overwhelming support throughout the past few months.

My little grass roots effort began on 08-08-08 when I pulled my papers to enter the CUSD board race. At that time my intention was to offer voters a choice in Area 2 and to raise awareness about district affairs. Although I was not victorious last night, I feel I have achieved the two things I initially set out to do.

Today, my in-box has been flooded with words of encouragement, hope and thanks from the wonderful parents, staff, and residents that live within the CUSD boundaries. I could not have asked for a better group to be on the side of our children.

Although I do not have a seat reserved on the dais, you can rest assured that I will be at the upcoming school board meetings. I will continue to advocate for our children and work on moving the district forward.

Many thanks to CUEA & CSEA for their endorsements and constant support. Thank you for the countless volunteer hours making phone calls, sending e-mails, talking to voters, walking precincts, placing signs, and spreading the word.

Lastly, THANK YOU to the 39,323 people that voted for me.

Dear Andrea Kooiman,
You have faced such strong antagonism from “the other side” and yet you keep a smile on your face, and keep researching for solutions instead of excuses. Everyone knows I am a big supporter of a diverse board- be it CUSD Trustee or City Council. I truly believe only a melding of suggestions from all different perspectives will help get us out of the hole. Your parental involvement, management background, community involvement, your connections with DHHS alumni and even your youthful naiveté will bring a fresh point of view to the board. Sometimes to find a solution, you need to be once removed from the problem... I believe you and you backers will offer original solutions to consider, all with the backing of teachers, employees and constituents of CUSD. May you have the same strength during the next 4 years that you have shown these last few months. The mix of some CUSD Recall and some Teacher backed candidates will bring this diversity. Kooiman, Kutnick, Stiff was my vote.

Wishing you a successful Nov. 4th!

I consider myself an "educated" voter. I researched both you and Sue Palazzo. You may be green but I believe that "freshness" will round out the trustee board. When researching what Palazzo has done lately. (snoop, initate discern about distinguished schools, took out question on blue speaker card do you have a child at a CUSD School?, flip-flopped on Republican party affiliation)and what she has written on PALS and Dispatch questions..I am convinced she will hand over the reins to CUSD Recall and not think for herself. Your 11 year old BK and your recent 11 year recovery shows me you are a survivor and not just a landlord of some property as your "claim to fame." IT took awhile, but you earned my vote...now get out there and win!
